Anthropic Plan Agents (Not Supported — Use an API Key)
Plain-language note: Claude Pro/Max subscriptions can't be used by Symphony; your admin will set up an API key instead.
Short version: A Claude Pro/Max subscription cannot be used to power
agents in Symphony. Your administrator will set up an API key instead, and
then everything just works — there is nothing for you to sign in to.
Why
Anthropic only lets its own apps (like Claude Code and the Claude apps) use
your Pro/Max subscription. Other apps — including Symphony — are not allowed to,
so subscription "Plan" agents are no longer offered.
This is the same reason tools like Cline and Continue ask for an API key: it is
the supported way for any third-party app to use Claude.
What this means for you
- You do not need to sign in to Anthropic.
- Your admin adds an Anthropic API key once, and the agents work for
everyone — in chat, in projects, and in workflows.
- If you previously saw an "Anthropic (Pro/Max Plan)" option or a "Plan — sign
in" prompt, you can ignore it; ask your admin to switch to an API-key agent.
Something not working?
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Plan (unsupported)" on a provider | Ask your admin to use an API-key provider |
| Grey dot, "No AI" | Ask your admin to configure an Anthropic API key |
| An old "sign in to your plan" prompt | Ignore it — plan sign-in is no longer used |
